If passionate for Latin rhythms and authentic Cuban music, it´s time to pack your bags “destination Havana”, to attend the Festival Baila en Cuba from November 11 to 16.
The Cuban capital will be main stage of its 13th edition and this year the festival will honor African dance and music, a true heritage of “sones” – a syncretic genre blending Spanish and African music – and traditional Cuban dances.
The festival is a one-time opportunity to experience a carefully designed program that includes dance classes encompassing the different genres of Cuban music led by prestigious dancers. You will also enjoy night concerts with famous casino and salsa orchestras.
You can choose between optional and casino workshops: optional workshops are dedicated to African dances like Regla de Ocha, Santería Cubana, Bailes Congo, Arara, Abakua, etc., besides such popular Cuban dances as Son, Mambo, Cha cha, cha, Rumba or Guiro dances. If you are not an experienced dancer do not fret…..you will attend classes customized for every level from advanced to intermediate to beginners, so anyone just wishing to enjoy some hip movement can participate.
The last day in the afternoon “La rumba para los rumberos” is a must exchange between dancers, ending with a Timba Caliente, where participants can exhibit learned skills with their best dance steps, also known as “pasillos”.
Among confirmed dance professionals: Jorge Amado Pérez Machado will deliver the inaugural conference and professors like Diego Iglesias, Gabriela Chao, Natacha and Noel or Yanaisy Ordoñez, Gleiner Delgado and Daniela will teach casino for beginners. Alfredo O´Farrill will be in charge of special workshops while Silvia Fabart, National Dance Award will teach Arara Dances.
Los Van Van, Adalberto Álvarez y su Son, Pupy y los que Son Son, Manolito Simonet, Maikel Blanco y su salsa mayor, la Charanga Habanera and Alexander Abreu & Havana D´Primera, will be among the main participating orchestras and groups. With so much talent there is no way you cannot become kings/Queens of the dance floor. A dance invitation for all!
